Happy Holidays everyone from Leilani!

When I was a little girl I dreamt of having a doll house but it wasn’t possible for my parents to get me one, so I started cutting dolls and doll clothes out of newspaper and paper bags, and when my auntie bought my cousin a pair of shoes I asked her if I could have the box and she gave it to me wondering what I was going to do with it. I knew I could something with it so I took it home and started to plan, what could I do with this box I asked myself??

It didn’t take long when the first idea came to me. Why not turn it into a doll house? Of course it would really be a room box but to me it would be a doll house.I gathered my dad’s newspaper and a couple brown paper bags and asked my mother to help me with some glue, which she gladly made for me using flour and water.  I was very happy because at last I was going to have a doll house!

Using the paper dipped in glue, I covered the box inside and out, and the room started to take shape. I too the top of the shoebox and made a division so I had two rooms/spaces. One would be a bedroom and the other would be a closet.

I put my cutout paper dolls in one side and the paper clothes on the other side which now was the closet. Mind you I had no pattern for making anything. Everything was formed, shaped and cut from my minds eye.  Oh’ the rooms didn’t have anything in them but I was happy and played with my cutouts until I fell asleep a very happy little girl cause now I had a doll house.

Well back to this Christmas scene. This is dedicated to the little girl (me) who had dreams and wishes of having a doll house! I see the little girl in the scene as myself  all dressed up for Christmas day with a room filled with all kinds of toys and a Christmas tree which by the way we never had one of either. It wasn’t possible for my parents to get us a tree, decorations etc. so we never had one. That is what inspired me to put this room together.

I had made the little fireplace along time ago, it was hidden away in a box somewhere but I decided to take it out and use it here. It isn’t anything special and it looks like an old raggedy run down piece but I was happy to give it a place in this box. I think it was just perfect for this scene and meant to be. So after many years it too had a place.

The gifts, hat, wreaths, wall decor, tree decorations etc… were made by me. I cut the dolls hair and dressed her. I made the little teddy she is holding from a piece of clay, nothing special about it but to me it is and it’s probably like one I would have had back in the day if I had one and it is dearly loved by the little girl. There is also another teddy by the table made the same way but this one is a little different and it’s sitting on a tiny sled.

Some of the toys and statues were gifts from my daughter.  She came upon them here and there in different stores and saved them for me. The little snowman on the shelf, the Jack in the box, the little Drum and spin toy were made by me.The floor is just a piece of foam board which I painted black because I wanted something different for this room. The rug is a printie on fabric and so is the wall photo to the right and all the little photos next to that are Christmas stickers, donated by my g-daughter Sarah.

There are Christmas cards, a letter for Santa and goodies for Santa on the table which you really can’t see but they are there.  The wall paper is just a left over piece of contact paper I had on hand. The sofa and table are from a swap and the skates I removed off a charm bracelet which I painted black and left the bottom silver as it was.The gorgeous tree which is a favorite treasure was another swap which I decorated and filled with all kinds of goodies that I made for it, but it is especially filled with love!  It is the fullest tree I own and my very favorite so far.

This scene reminds me of the kind of Christmas I dreamt of and it’s the reason why I created it.Made with love for the little girl who had dreams and wishes of owning a doll house!I hope you like as much as I do.~Have Fun Creating!~
