Research/ Inspiration

Tips/Hints

  • If you are using kid (which does come in pink), the easiest way to make ballet slippers is to cut a strip of leather about 1/2" wide and long enough to go around the foot. Err on the side of extra, it is easier to cut off than it is to add on or fiddle with a piece not long enough. Start by carefully glueing your ribbons, if you decide to use them, or by glueing on the elastic  across the top of the foot.Put glue on top of doll's foot; start at toe, lay on leather and smooth down over foot to bottom of foot. Then do the same along the sides, again smoothing to bottom of foot, and cut off at the back with the edges meeting. As the leather does stretch when it is wet with the glue, you can get quite a smooth fit. To shape to the sole, you might want to make tiny v-shaped cuts in the leather. Remember, though, that ballet shoes have quite wrinkly bottoms. Smooth and cut to fit. When the kid is in place, allow to dry. When it is thoroughly dry, cut a small 8-shape piece of leather for the sole, and glue this on over the area where the leather meets on the bottom of the foot. You may have to cut off the odd ripple to get the sole on smoothly, do this with a small, sharp pair of scissors.
