Miniature craft room projects for dollhouses, roomboxes and dioramas

Are you fortunate enough to have a room or studio to house all your crafting supplies and projects?

How do you organize all your supplies so you can find items in your "stash"?

Have you replicated it in miniature?

Do you sew or quilt? scrapbook? Is photography your passion?

An atelier is a place where an artist, typically a painter, makes art.
A design studio is for a designer who designs houses, shoes, dishes, clothes... and a craft room is a hobby room for a crafter who makes clothes, scrapbooks, dollhouses.

Men do woodworking, tinker with cars and other hobbies in workshops.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page for tips on creating/organizing a RL workspace.

 RL Craft Room Tips/Hints

  • Use magnetic strips to keep tools you use frequently in plain sight
  • Store like items together. eg cutting things in one area, ironing and sewing items in another. Analyze the way you work. If you move around from place to place doing the same task, use a container with basic items, which can move with you.
  • Pegboard is handy and makes use of vertical storage.
  • Don't throw that silverware container from the old dishwasher out! Use it to store stuff!
  • Store fabric fat quarters in those tall CD stands - quarters fit quite nicely on end and are easily visible. Two stands stacked on top of each other utilize vertical space efficiently on a skinny piece of otherwise useless wall.
  • labelling boxes - take a picture of the contents and paste on the front of the box.

Body Mechanics

  • Advice from Chiropractor - Use a wedge of foam to angle your knees lower than your hips to relieve back stress.
  • Bring your work area UP to your viewing level. Use a small box or some large books under your project. Sitting up straighter helps.
  • Get your knees under your table... sit closer to your work area.
  • If you have tight shoulders, push them down. Act like a turtle. (As you get stressed, your shoulders move up around your ears and the muscles bunch up. The downward movement releases the tension)
  • Make sure your work space is properly lit to reduce stress around your face and neck.
  • Get up and get a drink of water every half hour...walking and water are very good for you and you won't tighten up so much in the first place. Bodies were not built to be stationary - they need to move and the water will keep your mind fresh.
  • For 1:12 storage boxes, get the plastic flip top weekly dosage containers marked with the days of the week, Cut apart and file down the letters of the week on top.
