- In mid-summer, look for Allium christophii flowers and collect the seeds. They start off easily if sown in the fall, somewhere where the ground will chill a bit. The heads dry easily, and if spray painted or glittered can be hung above your buildings for miniature fireworks displays. Other varieties of onion will work, but this particular variety really does look like fireworks when dry.
