Research/ Inspiration
- Gold is a precious metal, prized since ancient times. It is unchanging with the passage of time. Gold adorns wedding rings, medals, crowns, and awards such as the Oscar.
- The Egyptians used gold extensively - remember King Tut's Tomb? The term golden has been applied to many things - Jason's Golden Fleece, the golden chalice, a golden moment, golden anniversary and golden jubilee, for example.
- Alchemists tried to produce gold from base metals - they lacked the "Midas Touch". Miners also discovered "fools gold", iron pyrite which resembles gold but is comparatively worthless.
- Needless to say, when gold was discovered anywhere, there was a rush to stake a claim and greed raised its ugly head. During the 19th century, Australia, Brazil, Canada, South Africa and the United States all experienced the influx of migrants desperate to take advantage of gold discoveries and become as rich as Croesus. In North America, the California and Klondike gold rushes are the most famous. It truly became the Wild West.

Tell more about it: what kind of things you have in mind?

I would imagine you could make a great deal of the miniatures yourself....saddlebags, gold nuggets, etc. Look in the water page for how to create a stream, the camping page for tent ideas and the landscaping page for rocks and terrain. See the video above for sluices.
Otherwise, shop for pans, picks and other tools.
