Tips/Hints

• Look in the Christmas ornament section for small packages of tiny ornaments (for miniature trees). Take the ornament hangar out with needle nose pliers & the ornament that remains can be a doll for a child, a decoration for the fireplace mantle, multiples in a display for a store setting, or knick-knacks on a shelf.

• Interesting table sculptures can be made from old earrings, cufflinks, charms and jewelry bits. For Sculpture pedestals for museums, gift shop displays, etc. try using lipstick cases, fancy perfume bottle tops. 
• Use a clear bumper sticker and a tiny picture to create a paperweight
• make up a decor kit just like interior decorators have in RL. Buy an accordion file. Label each division with a title for each room in the dollhouse (hallways included!), and put a sheet of typing paper (for notes) into the sleeve. Now put samples of everything you plan to place in the room into the designated sleeve. Swatches of fabric, WP, dabs of paint for furniture or walls, carpet colours, etc. Now when you go shopping, you can compare shades and patterns.
• Find a print that contains several colors that you love, and it will provide all that is needed to set the overall color scheme for the house. What was the main color for one room becomes an accent color in another?
  It is recommended to look at small print fabrics, particularly those that include different elements like a central design, plus some smaller elements, maybe a stripe or border, etc. When you spot one you love, even if it doesn't contain all the elements you want, buy at least a quarter yard of it and look for small amounts of coordinating prints and colors for pillows or tablecloths or seat cushions or curtains, etc.
• Can you mix the molding trims, eg white in one room and stained in another?  Make some temporary trim pieces in both the stained and the white and lay them in place in the rooms where you want them. You can use painted/stained cardboard strips to work with if you don't have extra trim. Set some furniture pieces in place if you have them and walk out of the room and come back for an overview of the entire house. Better yet, wait a day or two and then give it another once-over. Does it look pleasing to your eye?
  Interior decorators use a touch of black in every room; perhaps in a lampshade or lamp base, a bookend or figurine or vase, etc. If you use darkly stained trims in one room, be sure you incorporate some darker elements in the other rooms, as well. That way the eye sees a cohesive whole, not one piece that jumps out.
• Look for unusual mid-size beads at craft stores, top with small crystal bead or tiny shank button for a decorative accessory on an end table or shelf. Hand-painted wooden beads are especially pretty used this way.
