Miniature red projects for dollhouses, roomboxes and dioramas

Red, rouges, rose, rojo, rod, rood, rot, ruber, coch, akai all are red to someone.

What about a redneck, red-hot, red-handed, paint the town red, seeing red, ruby red red carpet?

Check also burgundy and pink

Red is the color of fire, denoting heat or warmth, energy vs stop(sign), denotes anger, hostility, excitement, intensity. It is the colour of blood - Red Cross, Red Crescent. At the same time, it is bright and warm, evoking love, and comfort. Red makes us react with speed and force, making  us breathe faster, our hearts beat faster.

Red gets noticed, makes the wearer appear heavier (you listening, Santa?) Red is a target. Red is used in a lot of flags. In the US Flag while being a stripe that represents the original colonies, it represents valor and hardiness. Red is energy, intimacy and passion, and sexuality. Red makes you hungry, and is used in restaurants for that reason.

Red is the colour of religion- cardinal red robes, the red robes of royalty..

Contrast a red taffeta petticoat with red flannel drawers.

Sneak peek special request....almost ready!

Research/ Inspiration

Tips/Hints

  • Red pigment is not as opaque as other pigment so it doesn't cover very well. It does stain well.
Too many coats of paint will make the surface gooey. So sand off or otherwise clean off the gooey red Then give the wood one coat of medium or dark grey base coat. Let it dry well. Paint your red over that. The grey will make the red cover better and need only one or two coats of red to look ok.
