Use the cup as a backdrop, as in Susan Wheeler cards
Think of a gypsy reading the tea leaves. Play around with the ideas of Tempest in a Teapot, Shakespeare and the Tempest, the history of tea, the tea pickers, the Chinese tea ceremony or tea house in a lovely black cup trimmed red and gold.
Fill the cup and place scene on the top, for example ice skating penguins sliding down whipped cream to splash into the water/coffee below, or a tea garden, or wherever your fantasy goes.
