September
And how has your summer been?
Are the kiddos in your area going back to school? Or have you decided to home school?
As a consideration for study, the dollhouse hobby offers an opportunity to learn a myriad of skills with real life applications. How to measure, cut, paint, sew, and follow directions are a few.
But think about teaching history and geography - How did people live? Where? Dioramas are a wonderful way to get kids to study the environment. For example a camping scene could depict a safari tent which Jane Goodall may have used to observe her chimpanzees, or a teepee could be the start of an investigation into the lives of the Plains Indians.
And what about math? What is the correct angle for stairs? How to make a circular tablecloth by measuring the diameter, then halving that to determine the radius. Set the protractor to the radius and draw a circle.
Harvest month, the busiest of all for farmers. Market stalls are at their zenith, selling the fruits of the season. Some homemakers are busily making jam and preserves, taking advantage of the cooler weather.
"The nights are fair drawn' in" say the Scots, recognizing the days are growing shorter. Trees begin to change colour.
The first day of autumn is September 23rd, and chrysanthemums start to appear in the florist shops.

Quotes:
"But now in September the garden has cooled, and with it my possessiveness. The sun warms my back instead of beating on my head ... The harvest has dwindled, and I have grown apart from the intense midsummer relationship that brought it on."
- Robert Finch
"'Tis the last rose of summer,
Left blooming alone;
All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone."
- Thomas Moore, The Last Rose of Summer, 1830
