bird seed - use coarse ground black pepper. fine grit from model railroading or fine sand from a crafts store
tiny twigs, a small amount of dryer lint and coffee grounds and tiny seeds mixed together with a little glue makes a birds nest place in a tree
cut a length of clear plastic straw, and glue a large sequin or flat button on the bottom. Poke two lengths of a toothpick through the straw at right angles to each other, about 1/3 of the way from each end, and fill it with black pepper. Another sequin or button on top, add a piece of wire for a hanger, and - voila! - instant bird feeder.
bird's nest - use sisal, available from a florist, or twine or string to make a nest. Or use the very fine roots from a bush or tree. Make sure they are very dry then rub/pick them off the main root and then put into a small dab of glue (i.e. Elmer's glue) on wax paper and push the bits of root up around the end of a round ended small paintbrush or similar and allow to dry. Then take the nest off the wax paper and trim around the edges. Then put a very small piece of lint (from the drier or similar) inside the nest, add your baby birds and glue parent birds onto the nest.
