When papaya seeds are dried and the outer shell removed, they look a lot like very tiny pine cones, under 1/4".
Tiny cones from alder trees are mostly under 1/2" long. Also, they can often be purchased on ebay by searching for "alder cones" or "tiny pine cones". These grow mostly in the northern woods.
Hemlock produces tiny cones, and some Fir trees too. Hemlock are shorter and more splayed out than the Alder.
