Tynietown - Susan Grimshaw wrote articles for Nutshell News and other magazines. The site contains her very interesting collection of antique doll houses and miniatures, describing  in great detail how she restored them. It also includes her wonderful contemporary collection of well known artisans since the 80’s til now, informative auction reports and some show reports (notebook tab). Straightforward and experienced opinions.

Research/ Inspiration

Tips/Hints

  • Taking off old wallpaper is very easy with Lysol all-purpose cleaner. ( or warn water and dish soap) Just spray all over wait 5 minutes. You don’t need to soak it. Just use a putty knife and scape it off. It scapes off like spreading butter. Lysol doesn’t ruin the wood either. I seems to actually clean the wood for a fresh start.
  • Taking off carpet takes a little bit of work. Try to find a spot to get a putty knife under. Spray a little bit of Lysol all-purpose underneath and wait a little bit and then pull it up. Pull a little bit at a time and keep spraying when it stops pulling up.
  • Taking off wood flooring is harder. This can be taken off in one solid piece but takes more work than the other two.  Find a spot to get a putty knife under the wood. Wiggle from side to side to loosen up the wood. Once the putty knife gets stuck and doesn’t move. pull the knife out. You would notice the putty knife has glue on it. Use rubbing alcohol to remove the glue from the putty knife. Add a little bit of rubbing alcohol on the putty knife and back in between the wood to loosen. Go slow and don’t rush the process. Sometimes it takes a few days to remove a floor.
  • Taking of plastic/vinyl flooring or wall pieces, use the same technique to get under the flooring with a putty knife. Either Lysol or rubbing alcohol. It all depends on the glue used.
