Dollhouse hobby history of Finland
- The most popular scale is 1:12. The dollhouse hobby became popular in 2000´s thanks to the the exhibitions arranged by the dollhouse association and by some local clubs.
- In 2005 the first Finnish dollhouse hobby book called Nukkekotielämää was published and raised the profile of hobby in media and blog, establishing that minis are not just for kids.
- Nukkekotiyhdistys has about 600 members and there are about 10 000 miniaturists in Finland.
- There is an association for dolls, teddies and dollhouses called Suomen nukkeyhdistys, as well as local clubs and associations. They arrange shows and fairs yearly in cooperation with each other. The oldest one is Nukke ja nallemarkkinat in Helsinkin (Nov-Dec). In the summer there are fairs in Lahti and Forssa. Check the details from Nukkekotiwiki´s calendar.
Popularity of miniatures, approximate number of miniaturists, most popular scales
- the most popular scale for grown-up miniaturists is 1to12 while most of the kids have a Lundby dollhouse which is 1to16 or 1to18. The younger generation of doll lovers like fashion dolls which are typically from 1to6
- there are thousands of miniaturists and doll lovers and there are association for dollhouse miniaturists as well as doll, dollhouse & teddy lovers.
Well known Dollhouse Projects
- The most famous dollhouse is in Finland is a Moomin house built by Tove Jansson and her friends which is now in Tampere
- Nukkekotielämä (the group behind the first book) built a Goldilocks and the 3 Bears´dollhouse together for a children's hospital.

Where can I find miniatures in an average town in this country?
- Check the craft shops and toy shops. In big cities there are shops selling souvenirs which might be useful also. There is a lot of flea markets (called kirpputori) in evevy city in Finland and they of course are good places for making finds.
What are the craft shops called or are there other places to try out?
- Tiimari and Sinooperi are chains selling craft supplies. Check also yarn and fabric shops.
