FAQ for people living in this country

As a newbie miniaturist, what should I know?

Japan is a dream place for a miniaturist because you kind find cute stuff everywhere.

Where can I find the materials I need?

In Tokyo there is Tokuo Hands - a big departmnt store full of materals

FAQ for visitors

Where can I find miniatures in an average town in this country?

  • Yamanote line Fabric Tour of Tokyo!! Nippori Textile Town (Tomato has everything), Kinkado in Ikebukero, Okadaya in Shinjuku,, Marunan in Shibuya  and Yuzawaya in Kamata  . It's an ALL DAY tour!! NOTE; Tomato is NOT open on Sundays My fabric "tour" isn't a formal tour... I just entertained my self one Saturday by getting on the Yamanote line at Hamamatsucho near my apartment and going to all the fabric stores I could find! Kamata isn't actually on the Yamanote but the rest are. This is my Google map of these as well as some fun restaurants I have found. Hope it works.

What are the craft shops called or are there other places to try out?

  • Tokyu Hands (many locations in Tokyo) is a famous arts and crafts store, but has almost everything you might need. Fabric etc.

  • Kinkado (in Ikebukuro amongst other places) is probably the place to go for fabrics and dress-making supplies. Yuzawaya (in Urawa, Kichijoji, etc, but not in central Tokyo) is also good for materials and craft supplies.

  •

What should I buy as a souvenirs?

  • local fashon dolls, BJD's or Momoko
  • Books of crafts

When a friend of mine is going to this country, what should I ask her to bring me?

  •  a box of Re-ment. Their scale is actually 1/6 but they work well in 1/12 dollhouses too. The variety of them is huge and if you buy one its content is not known. So buying a whole serie (4-9 boxes) is a good idea
  • the variety of doll magazines is big and they are well worth the money as the instructions have detailed phase pictures so they are understood even by foreigners. E.g. "Dolly dolly"
