Christmas Creche - A time lapse of the construction of the Christmas creche at the Friary of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Griswold, CT
Have you ever wondered about the meanings behind the placement of characters in a traditional nativity scene?
Mary sits to the left of Joseph, to be near his heart. The manger was in front of them and the cow's head peeked over the manger. The cow's breath kept the baby warm and if Mary needed more milk (assuming she wasn't breast feeding!), then the cow was nearby. The adoring child was placed near the manger. The wisemen and their camels surrounded this scene and the shepherds and sheep were at the edge of the scene.
