Air Dry Clay - a Yahoo group. In the group's LINKS section is a list of many clay brands with a brief description of each. In the APPLICATIONS section is the beginnings of a BRAND NAME REVIEWS section. Helps deciding which clay to use.

Activa Plus Clay:
Research/ Inspiration
Tips/Hints
Revive very old Paperclay by getting clay quite wet, putting it in a baggie and let it sit for a while to absorb.
Bread Dough
take a slice of bread, cut the crusts of, and discard. Tear the white of the bread into bits, place in a plastic bag with one tablespoon of Tacky glue. Knead until smooth and no longer sticky.
In humid climates, make sure to seal the finished product to prevent bugs.
Keep in mind, though, that it shrinks about 20% of its original size when it dries. AND it gets a little darker too. Keep the main part well protected in a plastic bag (no air contact) while you work smaller portions of it - only the amount you need - at each step, as it's air dry.
Flumo and Liquache
Flumo and Liquache are both pourable (non-firing) slips. They harden in the air. (see tutorials) They are useful when you don't have a kiln but still want to make dolls and other doll house items, or when making dolls for children to play with (once hardened, the casting can be bounced off the floor without breaking), and to make doll house accessories, jewelry etc. Flumo shrinks very little, Liquache shrinks a little more than Flumo but the adult dolls that come from the 1" to 1' scale molds are still too large for a 1" scale doll house. Porcelain slip will shrink an average of about 15%. So castings from Flumo and Liquache will be 15% taller and fatter. But there are some ways you can get around that problem.
Use a more petite 1" scale lady doll mold. Jackie Caron's Dawn Adam molds are more petite (delicate) than most other 1" scale dolls.
Use a teenager mold like Parker-Levi' s Kelly or Little women for the correct size.
You can use a child mold, children come in all sizes so this gives you lots of choices.
Here are some links on my website where you can see some molds that will work with the Flumo and Liquache. If you decide to try it, ask the mold company if the mold you are buying will be the correct scale in Liquache of Flumo.
