Michael's Hutches are very popular with miniaturists, and Elaine Sanderson has made some wonderfully meaningful gifts for her family. Her blog has some great ideas, and she graciously allowed me to copy this blog post.

Hutch for Debby, Rich, Ryan and Jackson

This memory hutch has meaningful items for my daughter Debbi and her family. It includes her wedding picture and wedding cake, anniversary pictures and memento, a photo-board of the boys and pets, golf trophy for Rich, teacups from Canada and US for Deb, a favourite childhood book, Yahtzee game, dog treats, a football trophy for the boys, a snowman for winter ski vacations, and a little Christmas tree and card.

Hutch for son Terry and his family

This hutch has a wine cabinet at bottom left which includes a graphic at the back of wine bottles, then a wine gift bag and tag, two glasses and the bottle of wine with holiday label. Above that is the bookshelf, with a readable cookbook and several other cookbooks and wine books, contained by Christmas bookends.
On the right top is the ballet display, with a poster, a pair of ballet slippers that I made with real leather, and a nutcracker as a reminder of the Nutcracker Ballet. Below that, some play items for their daughter- books, CD, colouring pages, .
The cabinet is decorated with red garland and a wreath that I made.

Hutch for daughter Tobi and grand daughter Emma

Because they eat plants, Tobi can't keep houseplants. So the top of her hutch features two African violets and a cactus. The next shelf down is goodie-oriented: canisters from printies "chocolate" treats made by myself and purchased from internet. Below that is a printie Nativity and because they have some seashell and coral decor, I made a Christmas star-fish and a bowl containing tiny sea shells. The bottom shelf has snowmen as the bookends and a tiny Christmas tree. The books include two that Emma helped make, and a purchase readable "Pride and Prejudice" for Tobi and "Wizard of Oz" for Emma.

Inside the lower part of the cabinet are play things- colouring books, box of crayons. And some kitty treats and fish food for the pets.

Hutch for son Nick

This one reflects some of Nick's interests.
The crossed swords on top represent his fencing hobby (sorry for sabres instead of foils, hon) The shelf below is the Christmas decorations for him- a Santa and two snowmen are clustered around an ice palace. The middle shelf is photo related- three cameras to represent his camera collection and a box containing miniatures of the postcards that he sells. The biggest camera has a removable lens and flash unit.
The bottom shelf represents Nick's collection of Edgar Rice Burroughs books. This is the Pellucidar series. There is also a map of Pellucidar tucked in the back behind a wrapped present. And on the right is a purchased copy of Burrough's "Tarzan Jr." that he made for Colleen Moore's Fantasy Castle.
