What is a wiki?

What is the purpose of Mini treasures wiki?

To become the world's biggest site dedicated to miniatures and dollhouses, edited by thousands and known and loved by all miniaturists :). The slogan of the wiki is "Connecting dollhouse people" and with help of the wiki you will find answers to all dollhouse related questions you were not even able to ask.

Questions about reading the wiki

Do I need account for reading the wiki?

No you dont. But if you want to contribute or comment, then you do.

I found a cool link from the wiki and now I´d like to translate the page into English. How?

1. Go to translate.google.com

2. Give the url of the page you want to translate and the languages (e.g. from Finnish to English)

3. Hit translate

The translation is made by a machine, but users can improve the translations. Also if you are using the translated versions of this wiki you might find odd translations - go ahead and correct them. :)

How to follow the wiki?

Wiki provides both emails and RSS feeds. See the email settings:

To follow the feeds you need a reader, see more from this video. I recommend Bloglines or Google Reader.

I keep getting emails from the wiki. How to get rid of them?

In the end of those emails there is text "Manage your notification settings or just unsubscribe. " Click Unsubscribe and after that you won't get any emails.

Are the any other options for following the wiki?

Yes, there is blog, Facebook and Twitter.

In the Mini treasures blog there are big news about the wiki and wiki member interviews.

In Facebook fan page there are some wiki promos from time to time and also some gallups.

In Twitter there is most content:

Questions about editing the wiki

How do I start?

First you need an account. Then check the editing instructions or just learn by doing. You can't delete anything by accident, everything is stored in page history. If you have problems, contact Johanna (johantti at yahoo dot com).

Where can I test the wiki features?

Go to our sandbox to play. :)

Can I contribute to the wiki? Are there any rules?

Yes, please! The more editors the more useful information we can offer to the dollhouse community. Code of conduct in the wiki: play nicely. Also commercial links are allowed but choose the page carefully. E.g. if you make mermaid dolls put them to mermaids page, not to shops.

Can I make a personal page?

This is a tough question but at the moment I don´t see any reason for this (but feel free to contact me and prove I am wrong). Instead you can introduce yourself at wiki_members and add links to your pages in other wiki pages.

How to add a new page?

That is very simple, see the video. When you create pages use template.

I found a broken link in wiki. What to do?

Please remove it. Someone will add the corrected link later if it gets updated.

Can I add link to my on-line shop?

Yes you can. You can also add an embedded picture of your product under the Minis on sale title if you use thumbnail sizes. Not more than 2 pictures per page from a seller. If you are using Mini treasures wiki for advertising your products it is correct to add a link to Mini treasures wiki in your site as well.

Note that wiki owner is free to remove any picture in the wiki whenever she wants.

Can I add affiliate links?

No, only wiki owner can use affiliate links.

I found inappropriate content from the wiki. What to do?

Please remove it as soon as possible!

Questions about pictures and videos

Can I add pictures of my miniatures to wiki?

Yes, if you own the copyrights and if it is not obscene or offensive. Keep the picture sizes small (preferably about 30 kb but in some cases max 50kb is allowed, like for Mini treasures wiki´s own promo pictures) so conserve space in wiki. All the pictures that are bigger than that will be deleted. See e.g. shrinkpictures.com/ to resize your picture. The picture should be named according to the page where it is included. E.g. the first picture in unikko page is of called "unikko1.jpg" and the second picture in scottish page is "scottish2.jpg". See the instructions for adding pictures from here.

To save wiki space I could show embedded pictures from Flickr but how is it done?

See the slide show for step-by-step instuctions. Other photo services provide the code for embedded pictures as well, feel free to use them as well.

What is the Flickr group meant for?

So there is a group in Flickr for Mini treasures. If you have an account in Flickr you can add your pictures to this group pool so that they can be used for decorating this wiki as well. The slide show of that group is shown on the Front page.

Can I add my YouTube video here?

Yes, embedded videos from any service are fine :).

OMG! I love this place but I am so new I am shiny. I am really lost. I have an enchanted shop on Etsy, Enchanticals, and want to get my items on her. I am also a big Flickr person.
